Can you see it rising, over you? I am devising, a plan to push on through. Would you really believe it, if I told you what was up ahead? Would you try staying behind if I said you'd end up dead? Can you see him, the man you've met twenty times before? Did you greet him, or did you show that poor man the door? I can't really blame you, I probably would've done the same. All these characters from a magazine are driving me insane. Chorus: Don't want to believe, I rather like not knowing. A life of certainty, Don't wanna know where its going. Oh troubled water, I see it up ahead. A lonely daughter, a curious mind that's left unfed. Now tell me preacher, what is your good word? He said for a little fee and some Deuteronomy you can join my little herd.
2.
Take the pill you've been prescribed. Let it tear up your insides. Still they swear its good for you. How dare you question what we do? Swallow lies but ignore the truths. What does it matter, you say, it won't happen to you? Its not your brothers who are being killed, So you let the vultures get their fill. Pre-chorus: Hug me till you drug me, honey Kiss me till I'm in a coma. Hug me, honey, snuggly bunny. Love's as good as Soma. Repeat the story but search for new ends. Madness bears its ugly head. We try and try to kill the minor flaws. We treat the symptoms but not the cause. Chorus: We're livin' in a world of make believe. Don't need to hide it up your sleeve. We're livin' in a world of make believe. Livin' in a brave new world. Livin' in a brave new world.

Wake up to a spliff put out in a glass of booze. Man I'm getting sick of these old morning blues. You know these blues, they come from the night. Staying up late cause you know something just ain't right. Pour a tall glass of neat whiskey, and pour it again. Hold that glass tight like it's your only friend. Looking for life's secrets in that shimmer of brown. Trying to silence the cries but it only echoes the sound. Chorus: I would give up half my life, just to play the blues every day. It's too much to bear life's pain when you can't sing the hurt away. Don't know what it is about these thin cold strings That lets me see the ground below while protecting me under its wings. These thin cold strings. I can't stand this pain, anymore. I find myself searching for and exit and looking out the door. Then I tell myself, I've gotta make this right, But if I lose again I don't know how I'll get up and fight.

Come on folks, and come and see, my little time machine. (repeat) It'll take down to the Delta, and down to old New Orleans. Now have you heard the sounds, that I'm makin' with my hands? (repeat) They'll take you down to Memphis, hell they might take you to the promised land. The blues don't change, but baby I sure do. (repeat) I could play the blues all night long, and now I think I'll play for you. Now I know I'm young, I'm young to have the blues. (repeat) But take my word for it fellas, you don't know what I've been through. The blues don't change, but baby I sure do. (repeat) I could play the blues all night long, but now I think I'm almost through.

Woke up in the middle of a dream this morning. The girl I saw standing there was no surprise. It's strange how it's hard to wake up with you now When I can still picture your dark brown eyes. I'm gonna find a way to make these days better. But at the moment I just don't know how. Don't get me wrong I've learned a lot these last two years, But it's getting so lonely now. Don't even know what is real. Did you visit me here last night? No footprints to show or reveal. I think they're hidden, far away and out of sight. Pre- Chorus: So pull me out of the darkness. Help me find a way out of the clouds. I'm just trying to keep my head above water, And keep my feet right here on the ground. Chorus: Do you ever think of my lovin' baby? Cause really doubt that you ever do. I know you might think that drives me crazy, But I've grown so sick of loving you.

about

The debut EP from Michael Green Band, In Front of My Shadow, is the first collection of songs from an artist who is pushing the boundaries of traditional American music into a sound that is truly innovative and relevant. The core of this idea resonates in the chorus from his song "My Little Time Machine" in which he states, "The blues don't change, but baby I sure do." His wide range of influences from BB King to Nirvana, from Chet Baker to John Mayer, show an artist with a deep understanding of the past who only seeks to move forward.
